Tadalafil (generic Cialis)

Tadalafil belongs to a family of drugs called Phosphodiesterase inhibitors type 5 Inhibitors (PDE5) and these drugs are generally well tolerated in most men. Unlike Sildenafil (Viagra) it is more selective to PDE5 type and therefore has less impact on the eyes, and heart which results in fewer side-effects compared to Sildenafil.  Tadalafil can remain active in the body for up to 36 hours this makes ideal for men to take anytime without the need to time sexual activity. Patients over 65 should use the drug with caution. Your doctor will prescribe between 20mg and 100mg. It’s recommended that you use the lowest effective dosage. Tablets are available in 20mg, 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg.

Do not take the medication if you are on the following drugs: Isosorbide Dinitrate, Isosorbide Mononitirate, Nitroglycerin, nitroprusside or other PDE5 inhibitors like (Sildenafil (Viagra); or Vardenafil (Levitra), Doxazosin, Prazosin, tamsulosin, Terazosin, itraconazole,  and Ketoconazole

Consult with your healthcare provider if you have the following: Pulmonary Veno-occlusive disease, Bleeding disorders, vision problems, Peyronie’s disease, alcoholism, irregular heartbeats or heart disease, history of priapism, hypotension, hypertension, liver disease, kidney disease, sickle cell anemia or allergic reaction to any tadalafil containing products. Speak to our pharmacist about other health conditions you might have before taking this medication.

Serious side effects to contact the doctor right away:

Allergic reactions like rash, hives, itching, red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin, tightness in the chest, trouble breathing, swallowing or talking, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or throat, fast abnormal heart beat, dizziness or passing out, change in balance, drooping on the side of the face, change in eyesight, hearing loss, ringing in the ears, unexplained bleeding or bruising, pain erections or erections lasting more than 4 hours.

Common Side effects: back pain, headache, flushing, upset stomach, muscle pain, heartburn, and runny or stuffy nose.

The active ingredient tadalafil is absorbed through the blood vessel under the tongue directly bypassing the digestive system therefore there is fast onset of about 15 minutes as opposed to 30 to 60 minutes. Lozenges avoid the need to take it on an empty stomach because it is absorbed quickly under the tongue without going through the digestive system. It allows the medication to be dosed at lower strengths because it is introduced directly to the bloodstream. Troches bypass the digestive system therefore there is a possibility of reduced side effects like nausea, indigestion, and headaches.

These lozenges should preferably be stored in the refrigerator but can be stored at room temperature.
